Broncos’ new QB receives perfect welcome gift from his biggest competitor

The Denver Broncos have a quarterback competition brewing under head coach Sean Payton. A moment of compassion emerged for veteran Zach Wilson and rookie Bo Nix this week, though.

Wilson recently chose to wear jersey number ten, just before the team picked Nix in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Now, Wilson is making a choice that the rookie will appreciate for the rest of his life.

Wilson is going to give No. 10 to Nix, according to Mike Klis.

Of course, Nix rocked number 10 during his college days. His connection with the number goes much deeper than that, though.

Klis explained why it was an easy decision for Wilson to make for his new teammate.

Nix had worn No. 10 all his life. He wore No. 10 at Pinson Valley (Alabama) High School and No. 10 at both Auburn and Oregon.

Even his dad, Pat Nix, wore No. 10 as Auburn’s starting quarterback in the mid-1990s.

Wilson either knew this or became aware of it, and shortly after the Broncos selected another quarterback in the first round, he proactively reached out to the Broncos’ equipment room to let them know he was willing to give Nix jersey No. 10 if he wanted it.

The gesture from Wilson that shows the type of teammate that he is. He recently chose to wear number 10 when he signed with Denver, but this became a no-brainer once he learned the backstory for Nix.

Wilson did not charge Nix to get the number, like most players do around the league when a teammate wants theirs. He didn't want money. He understood the situation.

There's no doubt that the rookie appreciated the veteran's agreement.

The two are expected to be a couple of the QB cogs in a tough competition for the starting role under Sean Payton in Denver.
